Alignment Healthcare sues federal regulators over 2027 Medicare Advantage ratings

Alignment Healthcare has filed a lawsuit against federal regulators over its 2027 Medicare Advantage star ratings. Fierce Healthcare reported that the company alleges its ratings were determined in flagrant violation of statute. Modern Healthcare and USA Herald also reported on the legal challenge against the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. [1][7][9]

According to USA Herald, the legal action follows a drop in the insurer star ratings that threatens its bonus payments for 2028. Alignment Health also announced the launch of a new Medicare Advantage plan, GlobeNewswire reported. [8][9]

Medicare Advantage is a health plan option in the United States provided by private companies under the framework of traditional Medicare. The program offers private insurance choices that wrap around original coverage to fill gaps for beneficiaries.
