The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed a third measles-related death this year on October 20, 2026. AOL.com reported that the country is currently facing its worst outbreak in decades. The latest fatality brings the death toll for 2026 to the same total recorded in the previous year. [1]

Health officials recorded 4,410 confirmed measles cases across the United States as of October 15, according to AOL.com. The federal agency previously reported two measles-related deaths in September. The United States Department of Health and Human Services verified the latest fatality through its National Center for Health Statistics. [1]

The national numbers follow localized surges in several states. As FTMQ Health reported earlier, Georgia confirmed 22 measles cases this year, including a patient in Macon County linked to a large Pennsylvania outbreak. Pennsylvania has recorded more than 1,100 cases, leaving unvaccinated close contacts in quarantine. [2]
