Researchers develop clinical tool to improve chronic kidney disease diagnosis

Medical Xpress reported that investigators have developed and validated a clinical decision support tool designed to improve the diagnosis and treatment of chronic kidney disease in primary care settings. The tool, named Treat CKD, was presented at ASN Kidney Week 2026, which takes place from October 22 to October 25. [1]
According to Medical Xpress, Treat CKD uses electronic health records data to identify chronic kidney disease at the point of care. The tool classifies risk based on Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes criteria and calculates kidney failure risk using the Kidney Failure Risk Equation. [1]
A caregiver is a person who provides care for individuals who cannot function independently due to chronic illness, age, injury, or disability. Caregivers can be formal trained professionals working at hospitals and nursing homes, or informal family members and friends. [2]
The development follows broader efforts to use digital tools in public health. As FTMQ Health reported earlier, researchers at Emory University expanded an interactive tool called VaxImpactMap to project state level disease burdens as US kindergarten immunization rates continue to fall. [3]
