Morocco has confirmed approximately thirty cases of diphtheria across several regions of the country, HESPRESS English reported on October 30. A senior official from the Ministry of Health and Social Protection stated that the infections are isolated and do not constitute an outbreak. The official linked the resurgence of the bacterial infection to declining childhood vaccination coverage. [1]
According to HESPRESS English, confirmed cases of the disease appeared in several areas, including Souss-Massa, Casablanca-Settat, and Rabat-Salé-Kenitra. Additional isolated cases were also detected in the Oriental region, stated Jawad Hammou, head of the Infectious Diseases Division at the Ministry of Health and Social Protection’s Directorate of Epidemiology and Disease Control. [1]
As FTMQ Health reported earlier, public health systems in other countries have also faced challenges with vaccine-preventable illnesses when immunization levels decline. In October 2026, health authorities in the United States recorded thousands of measles cases nationwide alongside related fatalities. [4]
