A two-year study tracking 3,744 human patients prescribed cannabis-based medicinal products for chronic pain found significant improvements in sleep quality, chronic pain, anxiety, and overall quality of life. The Marijuana Herald reported that the findings were published in The Journal of Clinical Pharmacology. More than half of the participants were estimated to have achieved clinically meaningful reductions in pain during the monitoring period. [1]

Researchers evaluated data from patients enrolled in the UK Medical Cannabis Registry over a 24-month timeframe. According to the Marijuana Herald, the study specifically analyzed individuals who received prescriptions for medical cannabis to manage chronic pain symptoms. VICE also reported on the findings regarding how marijuana affects sleep outcomes. [1][4]

Medical cannabis includes prescribed cannabis products and cannabinoid molecules recommended by physicians for their patients. Although cannabis has been used as medicine historically, research defining its safety and efficacy has faced limitations due to legal and governmental restrictions. [8]

The long-term study contributes to growing research on managing persistent symptoms through targeted therapies. As FTMQ Health reported earlier, addressing sleep problems and chronic pain can lead to broader health benefits, including improvements in related psychological and physical conditions. [1][10][11]
