Abbott experimental sound wave trial meets primary goals for heart disease

An investigational sound wave system for severely calcified coronary artery disease successfully met both primary endpoints in a clinical trial of 335 patients.

Abbott announced that its investigational SonicForce coronary calcium treatment system met both primary endpoints in a clinical trial, Stock Titan reported. The TECTONIC trial evaluated 335 human patients across 40 sites in the United States who suffered from severely calcified coronary artery disease. Scans revealed heart artery calcium fractures after receiving the sound wave treatment. [1]

The study demonstrated a 97 percent procedural success rate among participants, according to Stock Titan. The 30 day target lesion failure rate was recorded at 0.3 percent. SonicForce remains an investigational device limited to experimental use. [1]

The heart is a muscular organ that pumps blood through blood vessels throughout the body. Together, the heart and blood vessels form the circulatory system, delivering oxygen and nutrients to tissues while removing metabolic waste. [2]

As FTMQ Health reported earlier, researchers are also exploring other catheter based procedures for heart related conditions. Henry Ford Health initiated a trial in August 2026 evaluating pulmonary artery denervation to help patients with pulmonary hypertension stemming from heart disease. [3]
