Horseback riding can help reduce hyperactivity and improve behavioral and emotional challenges in youth with autism and other psychiatric conditions, Medical Xpress reported. The new study from the University of Colorado Anschutz was published in Pediatrics on October 10 2026. [1]
According to Medical Xpress, the published research builds upon previous evidence showing clear health benefits from eight to ten weeks of therapeutic horseback riding programs designed for autistic children. [1]
Programs involving equine interaction are also utilized for other therapeutic purposes. The Florida based charity Horses Healing Hearts was established in 2009 to assist children raised by parents dealing with addiction. [2]
The psychoeducational equine initiative aims to help young people build confidence and self esteem while giving them emotional tools to disrupt generational patterns of addiction. [2]
