Texas lung disease patient dies by suicide following prescription insurance delay
A Texas man with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease died by suicide after an insurance delay prevented him from receiving prescribed medication for severe breathing flare-ups.

Kenney Blewett of Kyle, Texas, died by suicide in June after an insurance delay left a critical prescription unfilled, KFF Health News reported. Mr Blewett had been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease more than a decade ago and began experiencing worsening flare-ups earlier this year. Days before his death, his doctor prescribed a new medication to ease his breathing problems, but the pharmacy notified him by email that the prescription had not been filled because of an insurance issue. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease is a long-term lung condition that damages airways and lung tissue, leading to reduced airflow and making it progressively harder to breathe. Hours after experiencing a severe breathing flare-up related to his lung condition, Mr Blewett died by suicide, according to KFF Health News.
