Over one million never smokers in the UK now use e-cigarettes

More than one million adults in the UK who have never smoked cigarettes are now using e-cigarettes, the BBC reported. Figures for 2025 show that the number of never-smokers who vape rose from approximately 940,000 in 2024 to over one million. [1]

For the second consecutive year, more adults over the age of 16 are vaping than smoking cigarettes, according to the Office for National Statistics cited by the BBC. There are now 5.4 million vapers in the UK compared to 4.9 million cigarette smokers, down from 5.3 million smokers in 2024. [1]

The BBC reported that individuals aged 25 to 35 have overtaken 16 to 24-year-olds as the group vaping the most. In the 25-35 age group, 16.4 percent of people use e-cigarettes either daily or occasionally. [1]

Overall cigarette smoking in the UK continues to decline, falling to nearly one in 10 adults. Experts noted that traditional cigarette smoking is declining across the country as alternative nicotine products become more prevalent. [1]
